The default web limit
Two megabytes is the most widespread upload ceiling on the internet, largely because it is PHP's traditional default and thousands of sites never changed it. Contact forms, ticketing systems, marketplaces and content managers all land there.
A phone photograph almost always fits with its full resolution intact, at a quality setting high enough that the difference does not show side by side.
When 2 MB still gets rejected
If a form refuses a file you have already brought under 2 MB, the cause is usually one of these three:
- The other definition of a megabyte. Some servers count 1 MB as 1,048,576 bytes, others as 1,000,000. This tool always targets the stricter one.
- A pixel limit you did not notice, stated separately in the small print. Set it in the pixel fields and try again.
- The file format. A HEIC from an iPhone is refused by many older forms; the output here is always JPEG, which fixes that.
